Data Retention and Deletion Policy
Effective date: April 23, 2026 · Version 0.1
This Policy explains how ErgoTax handles retention and deletion of information for the initial version of the service.
1. Tax data and attached documents
ErgoTax is designed so that tax documents, tax return contents, extracted values, and generated forms remain on the user's device and do not leave that device as part of normal product operation. Because ErgoTax does not receive those materials, ErgoTax does not retain them on its own systems.
2. Limited operational data
ErgoTax may retain limited non-PII operational and product data for a limited period, including:
- Policy acceptance records
- Service security logs
- System health indicators
- Non-identifying product usage events
- Error categories and diagnostic codes
3. Retention periods
Retention periods for limited non-PII operational data may vary depending on business, legal, reliability, or security needs. ErgoTax will aim to retain such data only for as long as reasonably needed.
4. User-controlled local deletion
Because tax documents and tax return data remain on the user's device, users control deletion of those materials through their own device, browser, local storage, exported files, and account settings where applicable.
5. Backups
ErgoTax may maintain backups of service systems and limited non-PII operational records for continuity and recovery purposes. These backups are not intended to contain the contents of tax forms or documents attached by users.
6. Changes
ErgoTax may update this Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted at ergotax.app with a revised effective date.
